Obituary
David John Delage died peacefully at home on August 24th. The previous 3 years were spent full time RVing with his wife, visiting people who had been important to them during their marriage of 23 years. He is survived by his wife, Kay Delage, children Dave Georges Delage, Cathleen Delage, and Elizabeth Swartz. His surviving grandchildren are Kendell Weiland, Nathan Delage, Luke Swartz, Mark Swartz, Georgia Brissette and Brady Brissette.
After returning home in August, 2022,Dave often remarked with his wry sense of humor that for his 80th birthday on 6/29/22, he received a brain tumor diagnosis from Massachusetts General Hospital. He underwent treatment at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, under the care of Dr. Ryan T. Merrell, Jeffrey Cummings, PA and their team, all of whom brought wisdom and knowledge to each encounter, spoke clear truths at every visit, were responsive, kind and supportive at every turn, guided Dave's journey to live life fully and prepared him for the day he entered hospice care to begin saying goodbye to loved ones.
His private interment took place on 8/30/23 at Larkspur Conservation Cemetery at Taylor Hollow. A celebration of life will be held on November 4, 2023.
Dave was born in Greenwich, CT, on his mother's 39th birthday, the 7th of 9 children. He leaves 5 surviving siblings: Clair Metz (NY),Helen Bethell (MA),Paul Delage (FL) Robert Delage (CT) and Richard Delage (NY). Dave was an inventor and entrepreneur whose creative genius opened doors to CBS New York as a radio engineer, held patents for hearing aid circuits, created an audiometer still in use today, and traveled the world as an executive for auditory equipment sales. In mid-life he created "SuperTimer", producing tracks, timers and software for pinewood and soap box derbies. He was a "test and measurement" kind of guy. Dave's unwavering commitment to the value of fairness was his moral compass. His greatest joys included improving the lives of children. He was most proud of his contributions to "Little Blessings", a day care center in Portsmouth, NH, as well as the evolution of SuperTimer.
Dave extended his family, marrying Kay Delage in Portsmouth, NH, and embracing her children, Karen Moran (TN) and Butch Hayes (TX ), and grandchildren Katie "Kat" Moran (TN), Braden Hayes (TX) and Kirby Hayes (TX). While Dave had reportedly always wished to marry a nurse, it is quite probable that he underestimated the challenges of a left brained, engineering-type man forging a union with a right brained psychiatric nurse. After moving to the Nashville area in 2008, the Nashville Predators stole Dave's heart. He lauded their management, was a season ticket holder, supported Predator charities, and won 4 trips to travel with the team.
In remembrance of Dave's life, it is the family's wish that any charitable donations be given to The Nashville Predators Foundation. A celebration of Dave's life will be held on the afternoon of November 4, 2023.
