Obituary

The family of our beloved Wendy Martin sadly announces her passing on September 6, 2019 at age 68, after a three-year battle with cancer. Wendy will be deeply missed by her husband of 46 years, Raymond S. "Buz" Martin, III, their children and extended family. She is predeceased by her parents John Alexander Williamson and Jean Cochran Williamson and her brother John Alexander Williamson, Jr. She is survived by her sister Margaret Williamson Brooke (Will), sister in-law Mary McKenzie Williamson; children Mary Hunt Martin (Allison Beatty), Molly Martin Witherington (Hunter), Margaret Martin Harris (Miller), Madeline Martin Waud (Edward), and Raymond Alexander Martin. Also surviving are ten grandchildren: Asher and Nate Beatty; Kate, Rainer, and Hunt Witherington; Maggie, Mary D, and Charles Harris; and Wendy and Eli Waud.

Wendy was born in Birmingham, AL, and attended Mountain Brook Public Schools. She received a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt, where she was a freshman cheerleader and the President of Delta Delta Delta and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She and Buz married in 1973 and lived in Baltimore MD, Wellesley MA, and Jackson, MS before settling in Nashville in 1986. While raising five children and driving thousands of miles, she served on the Boards of Oak Hill and Harpeth Hall Schools and The Next Door Ministry and was a member of the Centennial Club. When her nest was empty, she received a master's degree in Marriage and Family Counseling, maintaining a practice for the rest of her life. She was a mentor to women and a member of the Congregational Care Committee at Christ Presbyterian Church.

Wendy enjoyed reading, golden retrievers, golf, tennis, bridge, gardening, grandmothering, and walking on the beach. She was passionate about studying and teaching God's Word and serving her family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church Monday, September 9, 5-7 PM. A memorial service will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church at 1 PM on Tuesday, September 10, and a private burial held at Larkspur Conservation at Taylor Hollow. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Next Door Ministry, Siloam Health, or the Benevolence Fund at Christ Presbyterian Church.
